Session 15 - The One With The Pedestals

Image
27th Dec 2020 19:15 - 22:30 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 15 - Eleasias 16 Our "Heroes" stand, imposing and brave, before a closed sarcophagus with dragon iconography and an old, dusty suit of armour on a stand. They spend their usual amount of time working out what to do next. Mahtis is concerned about being attacked from behind, and so leaps back over the pit to stand guard in the previous room, with the elven marble statues. Kandi decides to join her, but doesn't want to risk leaping over the pit, so slowly and carefully makes his way down and across the base of the pit. The group decides they want to read the inscription above the archway, but the dust and dirt is getting in the way. In the absence of any normal means of getting rid of the dirt, Mahtis decides to hurl balls of fire at it to try to clear the inscription enough to read it. I'd hate to be present in Mahtis' home on spring-cleaning day! It works… somehow. Eventually, after much noise, smoke, du

Session 14 - The One With The Earwax

21st Dec 2020 19:15 - 22:00 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 13 - Eleasias 15 We rejoin our "Heroes" in the Ol' Boar Inn in Oakhurst, all nursing a pint of Goblin Brew Ale, nervously deciding who should reveal more of their personal history first. In the end Thomas was the first to crack under pressure, and spent some time outlining his history, both ancient and recent. Luckily, he spent far less time than Stephen R. Donaldson in relating a plagiarised story, and so we all breathed a huge sigh of relief when the baton was passed, first to Kandi, and then to Carro and Mahtis. Feeling that they now knew each other far better, though probably liked each other only the same amount, they went to bed, after agreeing to give Belak's wand to Thomas, as he was so keen to have it, with no immediate, obvious ill effects. The following morning Carro went to visit his brother, Erdan, who was now conscious and able to talk. Carro joined the rest of the group for breakfast and passe

Session 13 - The One Where They Did Exactly What The Baddie Wanted Them To Do

13th Dec 2020 19:15 - 22:30 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 11 - Elesias 13 One of our "Heroes" has just collapsed in a blinding light. The others are a little worried. Only a little. When TC comes round he explained that he received visions of the past, or future, or present. He is not sure. He cryptically promises to enlighten the rest of them more at a later date. In the meantime, the party decide to interrogate Belak and TC brings him round with his healing ability. Tied and initially gagged, Belak appears to be no threat, and, despite being a little cocky, he does accede to his captors and answers their questions regarding the fruit, the tree, someone named Togruk and whether Bella was still alive and how to save her. Belak suggested that putting the wand into the nook in the base of the tree would be the best way to get the tree to release the halfling girl. The party were not, at least for now, necessarily convinced. Carro took the ripe, red pear from the tree and sto

Session 12 - The One Where They Found A Pear (pair of what?)

29th Nov 2020 20:00 - 22:30 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 11 - Eleasias 11 We rejoin our "Heroes" after a short rest recovering from an attack of killer trees. Past experience made them very wary of corridors, trees, bushes, darkness, life in general. It therefore took them 30 minutes to progress down the next length of passageway, with Carro firing an arrow at every tree they saw (there were a number of them) and TC making sure by stabbing each one with a longsword as they passed. None of the trees reacted. Maybe they are part of a sleeper cell, triggered on exit, rather than on entry. Who knows? I do :-) When they eventually reach the end of the passageway, they came across two doors. Listening at each in turn, Carro hears nothing at the first, but possibly a little scraping noises from behind the second? Mahtis decides to investigate in her usual guise of a spider. Heading under the door, she sees the source of the scraping noises. Four goblins, one of them with purple

Session 11 - The One Where Carro Became A Lumberjack

20th Nov 2020 19:15 - 22:45 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 11 - Eleasias 11 We rejoin our "Heroes" having defeated three bugbears in relatively quick succession, and with little trouble. They enter a mushroom farm and spread out, checking out the various fungi beds. Each group of fungi seems to be growing in its own bed. Sheltered by a bush. Suspicious, Mahtis checks out one of these bushes, and seems convinced that they are very similar to the vicious bushes that they have meet on more than one occasion. Unaware of Mahtis' findings, Carro heads for the mushrooms which were yellow with purple spots - as described by Corkie. Bending over them he was a little surprised when the bush attacked! Regaining his usual poise he easily dispatched his woody foe. TC was less accurate with his attack, however, and got a branch in his face for his trouble, but Mahtis took out two more of the bushes with two swipes of her blades. With Carro, somewhat embarrassed by his scratches, taki

Session 10 - The One Where They Encountered Purple Vomit

16th Nov 2020 19:15 - 22:15 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 10 - Eleasias 11 Our "Heroes" are fresh from their level 3 training and keen to get on and find the healing pear. They pay a visit to Kerowyn at the store to ask about Belak the druid, but find out very little. TC does buy a couple of hand axes to throw at anyone he dislikes, and they sell their jewellery and gems in order to buy a couple of healing potions from Corkie at the shrine. They then all traipse along, crocodile fashion, to the mayor in order to hand him a roughly scrawled map of their intended destination, and Mayor Leng agrees to hand this to Felosial when she returns with her Watch members, even if the Watch had managed to find Bella in the meantime. The group then set out towards Belak's grove, following their map. It takes them just over a day to get there, but the trip is uneventful, and they spend the day practising their newly acquired skills on the various woodland creatures and flora that the

Session 9 - The One Where Not Much Happened

8th Nov 2020 19:30 - 22:15 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 7 - Eleasias 10 Exhausted from goblin and dragon battles, our "Heroes" struggled with deciding their next steps. Carro argued that the important thing was to get the healing pear, presumably from Belak the druid. He revealed to the others that the ill elf back in Oakhurst, Erdan, is actually Carro's brother on some sort of secret mission and that Carro would appreciate it if this information is kept secret, at least for now. The others were keen to level up first, especially after hearing from the goblin Grenl, who was getting a little bored with their relentless changing-of-minds, that Belak had recruited a number of goblins in the past, and also had some bugbear friends. And so it was agreed that the group would head back to Oakhurst to gain more skills. Then the conversation turned towards how to actually exit the building. Some wanted to try out the Platform Room, that they had not yet visited, others wanted

Handout - Belak's note to Durnn

Image
Durnn, Send your emissaries to my grove 2 weeks before midsummer to receive the white fruit, and two weeks after midsummer to receive the red. Make sure you distribute the seeds of the fruit far and wide in the land – that is your goal, Gulthias demands it. To continue to receive your payment, send me 3 workers every month. Do not expect them to return. In addition, once again send me a virginal female at each solstice. I appreciate that finding one may be difficult – I suggest you keep her away from the males after maturity, to guarantee her purity. I have deciphered the code for the Fortress’ platform. “Fire” in draconic (“Ixen”) will summon the platform and take you to the surface, and back. I suggest you take that route to and from the surface in future. Belak

Session 8 - The One Where All The Planning Paid Off

30th Oct 2020 19:00 - 23:00 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 7 - Eleasias 7 Having ensured the death of Meepo, our "Heroes" take the opportunity to have a short rest without being insulted by an overexcited kobold. Luckily, they manage to rest for an hour without being disturbed, but at the end of the hour a number of things start to happen. First, Trix, the brewer who they knocked unconscious earlier, starts to come round, and Thomas needed to tie him up and gag him so he wouldn't shout out and alert others. Then, the door into the pantry area, that they had previously barricaded with crates and barrels, started to move. Someone was trying to get through! When whoever it was discovered the way was barred, they started to ram the door in order to open it. The delay gave the party a chance to get ready for a confrontation. They scattered some caltrops all over the floor of the pantry, then posted TC and Mahtis just inside the pantry whilst the two elves readied their range

Session 7 - The One Where They Made Baby Noises At A Dragon

Image
25th Oct 2020 19:00 - 22:30 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 6 - Eleasias 7 Our "Heroes" decide to heroically rest outside the Fallen Fortress, at the top of the ravine, having allowed the rescued kobolds return to Yussi at the Kobold Den, along with the young goblin girl, Hersch, who they promised to take good care of and try to ensure the next generation of goblins and kobolds may have a better working relationship. Meepo is rather critical of the number of rests our "Heroes" seem to take. The elves volunteer to take watch, allowing the dragonborn and human to have a full night's rest. Nothing seems to emerge from the fortress overnight, though there was some movement in the trees in the other direction. Carro tries to wake Kandi up with a badly aimed rock. And fails. The movement ceases. The rest of the night passes uneventfully. Heading back into the Fortress, the group of decisive adventurers wonder whether they should head in a different direction this tim

Session 6 - The One Where They Ended Up Back Where They Started

Image
17th Oct 2020 19:00 - 22:00 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 6 - Eleasias 6 Our "Heroes" are standing amongst a pair of dead goblins who paid a high price for daring to fire arrows at the party as they struggled to cross a caltrop-strewn floor. Our brave heroes, faced with an unknown number of unknown foes in an unknown room decided to turn back the way they came and look at a few other things more closely, that they only glanced at previously. They crept back to the dragon fountain room and looked at the fountain a bit more. Then went back up to the place where they had killed some rats previously, and progressed a little further, finding another dry dragon fountain in a room with two disarmed pit traps. The traps seemed to contain bones, bits of metal and lots of dirt and mess, so the party ignored those and headed towards a connecting room.  Carro spots movement in the room, and is not surprised when more giant rats emerge from the smelly mess to attack the party, includin

Session 5 - The One Where They Forged Ahead

Image
11th Oct 2020 19:00 - 22:00 In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 6 - Eleasias 6 Our "Heroes" are standing before a fortress that, ages past, fell into a chasm by process unknown. Slightly battered and bruised from a run-in with some twigs, they are understandably cautious. Tommy decides to ignore the slightly open door and shimmy up the rough, crumbling walls to see if there's an alternative way in, or to see if he can get the jump of anybody waiting just inside. He manages to get up the wall, but the upper floor is completely crumbled and ruined, and the ceiling of the lower floor is intact, so he is unable to see down. So they walk in the door instead. How conventional. The first room is the remains of a circular tower. No way up as the old staircase is completely blocked, but there are two doors, leading north-west and south-west. Three bodies of kobolds lie on the floor, killed a while ago, and another is stapled to the far wall by a spear to his chest. Mahtis completely
