Session 22 - The One Where The Loose Ends All Tied Up

2nd Apr 2021 19:30 - 22:30

In-game timeline: DR1489 Elesias 24 - Eleasias 26

Our heroes are rested, if only briefly. They eventually allow Tarmon to visit his dead wife, though only after fully checking out the room themselves.

TC would like to use the portal device to see the place to where it connects, though Tarmon advises against it. Instead they all head down to the basement to view one of the creatures that came through the device. TC recognises it as a Lesser Ur-Vile, which confirms to him that the device is a portal from the Land (capital 'L'). Unfortunately the portal is one-way only, or TC would probably want to head back there using the device.

After chatting to Fred and George, the two humans who are locked up in the cellar, and refusing to set them free, they decide against using the device, and instead head into town to visit the Mayor.

Wanting to avoid re-capture by the Watch, they take the long way round to town, arriving as the sun is starting to rise. As they head towards the town hall, they spot two dwarves chatting to each other, Then, suddenly, one turns and attacks the other! They realise that the Splinter that they brought with them is having an adverse effect on people around them. Whilst Carro runs to help the two dwarves, holding the one who is attacking away from the other one until the effect dissipates, the others move away. They then discuss what to do with the Splinter and decide that Carro and Mahtis will take it to the outskirts of town, whilst TC and Kandi visit the Mayor, taking Tarmon with them.

The Mayor is surprisingly receptive to visitors, given the unearthly hour of the morning, and the fact that she had been up all night helping to sort out the situation with escaped monsters from the Carnival. She listened to their story, acted upon it and, after a couple of hours, Captain Icespine had been implicated in corruption and arrested, along with another couple of members of the Watch; the Splinter had been recovered - Togruk seemed to be able to control the Splinter in some way and remove its negative impact upon people nearby.

The group were kept under house arrest in the inn for a night until the Magistrate arrived, but the Magistrate listened to their story and exonerated them, and Togruk and freed them. Not only that, they received some reward from the town for their work in investigating the death of the sewer worker, and in stopping Tarmon's dabbling in 'the occult'. Tarmon was locked up and will be tried later, but is fully complying with the authorities.

All is well in Flint Rock.

The group talked with Togruk and the half-orc took charge of the Splinter. TC also gave up his wand that they obtained from Belak, which turned out to be another Splinter. And Togruk already owned two more of the Splinters in his crown. He hoped that his new ownership of four of the Splinters will enhance his visions of the Spirit in the North and the Ruin that threatens the land (little 'l'). They also may reveal to Togruk the location of other Splinters that may help the cause. The origins of the Splinters is still unknown, but they do seem to belong to the Land (capital 'L'), and TC has some theories about them. The group seem to be fully paid up members of the Path of Preservation now! Togruk did report one thing that he discovered after attuning to the new Splinter - the name of the Spirit in the North: A-Jeroth. TC shivered at hearing the name.

Leaving Togruk to make his way back to Neverwinter in his own time, the group head back to the port city, hoping to help Mahtis track down her sister, Ruhin. Her last known whereabouts was on a ship called the Emperor of the Waves, which was attacked by pirates. They will have to pay for passage on a ship to investigate…
